Learn About Fuzhou----a City with a Long History and Modern Vitality
With a history of over 2,200 years, Fuzhou is not only a famous historical and cultural city in China but also the capital of Fujian Province. It’s located at where the Minjiang River meets the ocean, adjoins the Yangtze Delta Economic Zone on the north, the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone on the south and Taiwan Island on the east. It’s an important central city on the west bank of Taiwan Strait. It was named after “a Fushan Mountain in the northwest” and nicknamed as “the City of Banyan” for “no cover is needed in hot summer with the whole city shaded by banyans”. The Minjiang River and Wulong River traverse the whole city and reach the East Sea. Thus it enjoys the landscape pattern of “pillowing on mountains, facing ocean and bordering on rivers” just like a water town to the south of the Yangtze River.

Located where the Minjiang River meets the ocean, it boarders the Yangtze Delta Economic Zone to the north, and the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone to the south with Taiwan Island situated directly across the Taiwan strait to the east. Some say no cover is needed during the hot summer with the whole city shaded by banyans.
The Minjiang River and Wulong River flow through the whole city finally reaching the eastern shoreline creating a picture-like landscape patterned with pillowing ranges on the surrounding mountains faces feeding a tapestry of rivers weaving to the ocean inspiring some to call Fuzhou the water town south of the Yangtze River.
